May 27–An Idaho Fish Game official who investigated a report of a wolf attack on a dog in the Idaho City area last week confirmed that there were wolves in the area, according to a press release from Fish Game Tuesday.

Physical evidence from the scene indicated that the dog was likely carried off by a wolf. The incident occurred late Wednesday, and the dog hasn’t been seen since.

Wolf sightings were reported in the Idaho City area the previous week, Fish Game officials said.

“Area pet owners should remain vigilant in keeping their dogs in a secure area,” Fish and Game wildlife manager Craig White said in the release. “Wolves see domestic dogs as a threat, and do not tolerate them well.”

Officials believe they wolves were part of a pack that formed in the area several years ago.
