FWC remains active where bear attack occurred

Late Monday evening the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) captured an adult male bear near the scene of a recent bear attack in the Carisbrooke neighborhood of Lake Mary. As with the other bears, the FWC removed from the neighborhood, this bear showed signs of being highly habituated to people. Therefore, staff determined that this bear was a potential threat to public safety and needed to be put down. FWC staff will remain in the area working with residents and local authorities. The FWC reminds residents in this area to be aware of their surroundings and always supervise pets and children while outdoors. The FWC relies on residents to report threatening bear behavior. Once there are four breeding pairs of wolves in eastern Oregon for three consecutive years they can be considered for removal from the Oregon ESA.
